Book Review: The Judge Wore Lamp Black
The Judge Wore Lamp Black: Mysterious Devices 5 by Shelley Adina
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I’ve eagerly anticipated book five in the Mysterious Devices mystery series. After traveling around the Americas with Daisy and Freddie Linden, along with their loyal companions for so long, they all feel like family. I’ve wanted to find their missing father just as much as they have! And it looks like they are very, very close indeed to a family reunion.
In this installment, we’ve all arrived by air in ‘a contrivance’ at Port Townsend in the Pacific Northwest, chasing clues that should lead us closer to solving the mystery of dad’s disappearance. But, almost immediately, the group find themselves in real trouble with the local Judge! There’s no end to their legal troubles throughout most of the story, but they’ve all learned a trick or two during this long adventure, and are able to make good progress in solving multiple mysteries… and murders.
I enjoyed meeting the First People who live outside Port Townsend, and their idyllic, mist-shrouded, mysterious village. They are now part of the collected friends met along the way, and my personal favorites. I’d love to visit them again sometime. Perhaps in a future story?
This is the next-to-last book in the Mysterious Devices series. It provides a satisfying story with plenty of surprises, as usual. I’m not sure how book six will wrap up the grand adventure, but I will certainly be finding out the day that book publishes!
If you are enjoying this adventure, keep in mind that this is the twenty-first book in the Magnificent Devices universe.
