Steamed and Steamy: The eBook Six Years in the Making!

Perhaps you know about my little cookbook, Steamed and Steamy: Recipes from the Steampunk World of Industralia, published as a paperback in 2016. Almost immediately people started asking me when the eBook would be available. Apparently, the answer to that question is “in six years.” Why did I wait so long? Especially since eBooks are so much easier to publish than paperbacks? Well, I’ll tell ya.

Cookbooks are strange critters. Look in the front of one – there’s a table of contents listing every recipe. Look in the back of one – there’s an index broken down by ingredients. What do these have in common? Each recipe or ingredient refers you to a page number. eBooks don’t have page numbers. I admit my brain immediately overheated and then shut down on the issue of table of contents/indexes in a book without page numbers.

And then there’s the illustrations! In a paperback, I can align then precisely where I like on the pages. I can make the text flow around them if I like. I can make them in any size I like. But eBooks don’t have a set-in-stone page size or style. That’s good for you as the reader, since you can choose from various fonts, text sizes, margin spacing, and even line spacing. But what would your freedom of choice do to my carefully aligned graphics? Yep, brain overheated and shut down again.

So, I didn’t think about it again for years. Then, last week, out of the blue, I realized how I could overcome these obstacles! It was absurdly simple and all it required was a *ton* of work on my part! Hurrah! And now the work is done. Instead of page numbers (remember? they don’t exist?) every recipe in the Table of Contents and every ingredient reference in the Index is a link. Click the link and bammo, you fly directly to the recipe you need.

The eBook version of Steamed and Steamy: Recipes from the Steampunk World of Industralia will be released through Smashwords and Amazon on August 2, 2022. But you can pre-order now and the cookbook will magically drop into your reading device on August 2nd.

Why would you want to pre-order a book? Because you help authors when you do. Pre-orders count as sales, and when August 2nd arrives, my book will gallop out of the starting gate with a higher ranking and more visibility, and I’ll sell even more books! So please, if you plan to buy the eBook, place your order now. I’d really appreciate it, and the next time I eat a cookie I promise I will dedicate it to you. 🙂

Now you can make the favorite foods of the fictional country of Industralia, from breakfast right on through to late night snacks. You’ll even learn how to make traditional New Year’s “Coal Week” holiday treats.
