Book Review: Keeper of Enchanted Rooms
Keeper of Enchanted Rooms by Charlie N. Holmberg
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is a book I probably shouldn’t have liked… but in spite of that fact, I *loved* it.
It was the mystery aspect that drew me in. I stayed in spite of the horror (never my cuppa) and romance (only rarely read) aspects, because I was instantly hooked on the house and the magic that permeates this reality.
The characters are expertly crafted and easy to care about. Especially Hulda – she’s wonderful! The setting, a forgotten swampy lump of island in Rhode Island, is described so well that I can still see it clearly in my mind’s eye, a week after finishing the book.
There are plenty of nail-biting moments as layers of mystery are slowly revealed to us. And in the end, we are gifted with two final chapters that differ wildly from each other, but team up to make a satisfying end to a wild ride.
I’ll never look at the rooms in my own house the same way again.
