Sister Thomas Josephine’s adventure’s continue in Book Two of the Nunslinger saga. As always, the writing is gritty, authentic, and poetic, even during the rather gruesome parts. It feels like the true old west more than any western I’ve yet read.
By now, our protagonist is gaining skills at jumping from frying pans into fires and back again, but those hot spots are never cliche, and how she gets out of them would make Pauline and her Perils jealous. She finds allies in a house full of working girls (you know, fancy women) after an encounter with a truly despicable man goes as wrong as it possibly can.
This is a huge dose of adventure packed into a book you can read in one sitting. But don’t despair there’s still ten more installments to go!
