Book Review: The Dresden Files #5: Death Masks

Someday I’m going to figure out exactly *why* I’m compelled to read The Dresden Files. I mean, I love the premise, and how magic works in Harry’s world. I love his varied relationships with other people and creatures. I love how he can do battle and not act like the shiny, perfect superhero.
But I always find myself reading the first few fight scenes with interest, then as they start piling up, I start skimming. The last quarter of each book falls victim to more skimming when the exposition shoots up and the plot progress drops down. Then I hunker in for the last couple of chapters and a satisfying wrap-up.
Death Masks is no exception. I found myself falling into the same pattern of read/skim/read once again. But I just *know* in a couple of months I’m going to start craving #6, Blood Rites. I guess it’s all part of the magic?
