Book Review: Rebel Girls Awesome Entrepreneurs
Rebel Girls Mean Business: 25 Tales of Entrepreneurs and Investors by Rebel Girls
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
(Note: The advance review copy I received was titled “Rebel Girls Awesome Entrepreneurs”, but it is the same book.)
This well-titled book is indeed awesome! It’s filled with mini-biographies of innovative women who started with a dream, and went on to created their own successful companies, or vastly improve companies they worked for. I appreciated the generational mix, with women representing various decades. We learn about Madam C.J. Walker, who created her black hair care product line in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, And we are introduced to Mikaila Ulmer, born in 2004 and already making great strides in bee conservation and her honey-sweetened lemonade business, In between those extremes, women from many points on the timeline are featured. There is a role model for every young girl.
After the bios, there’s a blank page for the young reader to write their story and draw their own portrait, if they want to. There’s also a glossary of business words to learn, and (the best part!) a step-by-step “Build Your Own Business” guide that’s realistic and practical.
This books is part of the “Rebel Girls” series. The mini-bio format is used throughout, with each book highlighting the accomplishments of women in various occupations, from athletes to mothers and daughters. I’ve read a few and really enjoy them. I wish I’d had these books to educate and inspire me when I was young.
My thanks to Rebel Girls and NetGalley for allowing me to read a digital advance review copy of this book. This review is my honest and unbiased opinion.
